Galleries and museums in Hamburg

Hamburg frequently hosts world-class exhibitions. We know what’s on when and will be happy to obtain tickets for you ...

The Hamburg Art Gallery together with the Gallery of Contemporary Art is home to several major art collections ranging from medieval to modern and contemporary art.

The Deichtorhallen are a major architectural highlight. Built in 1911, the two dilapidated former market halls were converted by a private sponsor and the Berlin-based architect Josef Paul Kleihues into two of the largest and most beautiful exhibition spaces in Europe. They offer 6,000 square metres of space, separated by mobile walls with a total length of 500 metres. International contemporary art is on show in specially themed exhibitions or individual shows from Warhol or Marc Chagall to Haring. This is supplemented with a whole host of top photographers such as Newton, Leibowitz and Penn.

Located directly on the Town Hall Square, the Bucerius Kunst Forum organises three to four exhibitions in cooperation with guest curators which are prepared by international scientific symposia.

In addition, there are many private galleries in Hamburg exhibiting the works of up-and-coming young artists.
